Marguerite Abouet was born in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, in 1971 and moved to France in 1983. She currently lives in Romainville, dedicating her time to writing and other work. She took her first successful steps into the world of comics with her scenarios for the 'Aya de Yopougon' series. In 2006, 'Aya de Yopougon' was declared best comic book of the year at the festival of Angoulême. The publishing company L has also published the series in the Netherlands.

Clément Oubrerie
made the drawings for 'Aya de Yopougon'. Oubrerie was born in Paris in 1966. His work includes animated cartoons for the TF1, M6 and Canal+ channels. His exceptional drawing talent really comes into its own in the 'Aya de Yopougon' series, where he uses his delicate pen to create an amusing and authentic image of Africa.

'Aya de Yopougon' is set in a suburb of the capital city of Abidjan, in the tranquil 1970's. Abouet's script focuses on the love life of several couples, using them to portray her country's customs and habits in a humorous way. The three installments combine to form an African soap, complete with intrigue, arguments and tears. Each installment ends with a separate chapter that goes more deeply into the attire, food and traditions of the Ivory Coast.
